Car accident in Canada

Description

The accident happened on Thursday on the main highway between Toronto and Montreal. Heavy snowfall had reduced visibility to 300 meters. Due to the ice, a trailer truck jackknifed and blocked the way. Then a car hit the jackknifed truck and soon the situation became unmanageable.Because of the poor visibility and the slick road surface, drivers couldnt see the wreckage of piled up vehicles in front of them until it was usually too late to stop. To avoid serious crashes they could only try to swerve off the road, which only a few managed to do. Average speed on the highway under such weather conditions is about 35 to 40 mph, but it took only 20 minutes to have about a half mile of the highway look like a snow covered vehicle junk yard.
