A fire in a highrise apartment house
In a tall, non-descript Moscow apartment building, a fire breaks out on the 14th floor. Trying to escape the fire, the owner of the flat fled to the balcony. He’d rushed to the stairwell first but roaring flames had blocked his way. The horrified man presses himself up against the balcony’s railing. He’s hundreds of feet up but, remarkably, help is at hand. The firemen have a new ladder that can actually reach him that high up. The poor fellow is breathing pitch black smoke and is drenched by water from the firehose. Finally, the man throws himself into the fireman’s arms.

Most Russians consider foreign cars to be safer and more reliable than their domestic counterparts. Generally, this is a pretty fair assessment. Foreign cars like this American SUV, do run into trouble sometimes. This engine fire was probably caused by an electrical short or a damaged fuel line. It started pretty quickly during a wedding procession.

This sort of carfire isn’t that much of a challenge to experienced firefighters… They start fighting the car fire. One of the firemen enters the smoky garage only to have the door close and trap him inside.

An incredible last minute rescue from a burning building
Catastrophic events during a recent New Year’s Eve in Yekaterinburg. There would be precious little celebrating this evening for the city’s firemen. Despite their best efforts, a spectacular electrical fire burned an empty building to the ground. A short time later some airborne burning debris started a serious fire in a neighboring apartment building by igniting some trash on a balcony.
