Several years ago, the first Victory Day Celebration took place in Yakutsk. The fireworks salute was designed to be the high point of the festival. But clearly something went wrong with the fireworks. You can see them flying across at the public instead of soaring majestically into the nighttime sky!

In the middle of a tribute to a famous Russian writer, the stand filled with VIP guests collapses. Apparently, the festival organizers had saved a little money on nails…
One of the local bikers decided to show off his riding ability. While doing a difficult trick he flew off the cycle. The bike continued going, much like a chicken without its head. Most onlookers were able to get out of harm’s way, but a 4-year old boy wasn’t so lucky.
The place is Nizhny Novgorod, Russia’s third largest city. The inhabitants of this apartment building called the emergency service saying that they heard muffled yells for help from inside the building. The rescue rangers discovered that a girl had somehow gotten stuck in the ventilation shaft around the second floor.
A merry group of revelers threw a party at a recreation center near Moscow. As the evening wore on, the crowd got to drinking and the atmosphere got well, rather raucous. When night fell, the group started shooting fireworks in the sky. The sky was illuminated by not only the fireworks themselves, but eventually by the burning flames of this tree which the fireworks have set on fire. They’re pretty casual considering they could easily set the entire forest on fire.
In Yekaterinburg, horseback riding is a favorite New Year’s Eve tradition. Here it’s nearly midnight, and there are just moments to go before the New Year begins. That’s when an incredible and - highly unlikely - incident occurred. The horse on which a child had been riding somehow fell into an open hatch. Her hind legs went down & she got stuck so snugly that she couldn’t possibly free herself on her own.
